Drugstore Alternative to Chanel Gold Fiction & Other Top Nail Trends

You may have heard all the brouhaha about Chanel Gold Fiction polish. If you're not willing to pay a fortune for this stuff consider an alternative...such as Golden Goddess by Milani or the new gold polish by Revlon, shown below:

Inky blue nail polish is another hot trend, so I've heard. Revlon makes the most beautiful ink blue polish called A Midnight Affair with a hint of shimmer...an absolutely gorgeous color:

And yet another trend I've heard will be big this fall is gunmetal gray...however the drugstores are lacking from what I've seen and heard.

So...I am thinking about mixing black and white polish. Milani has some gorgeous choices, while you could go creamy matte with the color I think gunmetal gray would look best with shimmer.

If anyone does this let me know. Also if I decide to mix I'll post the results.

Cheapest Lip Stain EVER

Ok, rather than going out and spending a fortune on a lip stain pen...which you really can't even find in drugstores that I know of...you can raid your kid's marker box...

Now don't sue me if this doesn't turn out...but you can use a NON-TOXIC WASHABLE marker like those made by Crayola for example as a lip stain. Please note this is not the directed use for this product and I am not affiliated with Crayola. (Hey, I've gotta protect my arse here)

Try lip liner under it and gloss over it if you want because it is drying. Or balm then the marker.

Because these markers are safe for kids who may put them in their mouths (i.e. toddlers) they should be safe as a lip stain.

I read this somewhere and I may try it later and take pictures for the blog, if so I'll post a part II or update this post. I just hope my sons have a pink marker...lol...I took the day off from my "real job" so I'm coming up with all kinds of fun ideas today.

UPDATE:

Ok, I tried a Crayola Pip Squeaks in Dinky Pink and a Rose Art in a pale pink color...both non-toxic.

Please, you do not want to try this. Consider one of the lip pens from Mark! which is a company affiliated with Avon. The color was OK, but didn't last. And, when I licked my lips and there was the most BITTER taste, apparently to keep kids from eating their markers, lol.

Here are some pics below of Mark! lip stain pens...they look good I may try one....I just hate ordering stuff and would rather just go to Wal-Mart or CVS or a store like that, anyway here is what they look like. If anyone finds a good lip stain pen at a drugstore or discount store please let me know!

Did Anyone Watch Blush on Lifetime Last Night?

Did anyone other than me watch "Blush" on Lifetime last night? I will probably never watch again, I was very disappointed.

The food thing where the contestants were supposed to make makeup out of food was insane, and the disco theme with Danii Minogue was also ridiculous...I'm sorry I guess professional makeup artists do this kind of thing but I like "pretty" makeup, like the poor girl who got booted. Or maybe not poor girl. If I had to spend more than five minutes with this "Maxi" person who has worked on "every rap video on the planet" we would have to throw down. WTF was with the mask? And why did he win immunity his makeup wasn't all that. And as for the chick who sneered "I was born in 1983" well aren't we young and cute? Barf.

I was hoping to see beautiful makeup artistry and was really disappointed. Honestly Vanessa Marcil's makeup looked better than anyone.

I am not wasting an hour on Tuesday nights watching this caca, but I may look up the artist who got booted because I also love pretty makeup rather than the artsy-fartsy stuff.

Ok, I'll stop ranting now...What did everyone else who watched it think?

An Unflattering Photo of Angelina Jolie -- Stop the Presses

I am in shock...the illustrous Angelina Jolie has actually taken an unflattering picture. It doesn't even look like her. Since I don't have the rights to these photos, I have to give you a link to see them.

This proves that it doesn't matter who you are, the right pose and photography makes a huge difference. Also check out some of the closeups to see her makeup (and a few forehead lines, which also makes me feel better!)

Garnier Fructis Play Style Reshapable Putty -- Fun and Useful for All Hair Types

I happened to come across this product and had an urge to try it...boy am I glad I did!

My hair is medium-long, fine and frizzy if not heat styled or carefully air dried. The Garnier Fructis Play Style Reshapable Putty worked wonders on my unruly hair.

First of all...it smells fruity and delicious. Second of all, it is the consistency of thick school glue. Maybe it's just me, but I really like dipping my fingers in the jar and removing a bit of the sticky yet lovely smelling goo.

You warm a tiny bit of the product between your hands and fingers then style. I flip my head over and rake my fingers through my long layers, then flip it up and use my gooey fingers to define tendrils and fix tricky spots. I can see this product working wonderfully for short, spiky or pixie styles also. Basically I think it can be used for spot styling for updos and the like regardless of your hair type. Highly recommended!

My Review of L'oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara

Ok...just when I thought L'Oreal mascara was as good as it could get they go and do this...release Double Extension Beauty Tubes mascara.

OMG...this stuff is absolutely incredible. It is like lash extensions that don't budge until you take them off with warm water -- no makeup remover necessary and no raccoon eyes.

I bought this a few days ago and have worn it constantly. I even slept in it (I know, bad) and the next day my lashes were still flawless.

You put the white coat on first then immediately cover with the black coat. The result is super-long lashes that look like falsies but aren't. I am hooked, and love this even more than Voluminous. For around $8 you get salon quality results that last and last...give it a try!

Pumpkin Face Mask Recipe

I hope you enjoy this fall inspired pumpkin facial mask...it is cheap, easy and works great!

Actually, this isn't even really a recipe because it's just so easy...

Get a can of pumpkin. Make sure it is real pumpkin not imitation pumpkin. It can be puree, mashed, whatever. One can should do the trick.

Empty the contents of the can into a bowl and mash around a bit. Then, smear all over your face. Leave on for at least 20 minutes then rinse thoroughly with warm water.

This makes a great hair treatment also...you could do both your face and hair with a pumpkin mask while soaking in a bubble bath, then wash off the pumpkin in the shower with clean warm water.

Pumpkin is rich in Vitamin A and very nourishing for the skin and hair. You'll find fancy expensive pumpkin face masks but why pay more when a can of pumpkin is about $1?

You can add ground walnuts for a pumpkin scrub, a mashed banana for extra moisture or a few drops of oil like jojoba, sweet almond or even a scented essential oil like Vanilla for extra moisture and fragrance. Essential oils are very strong, so go light with the dropper and never apply directly to skin. Enjoy!

Pantene Texturize Hairspray -- Best.Hairspray.Ever.

My hair is naturally wavy and fine. Without styling, my locks look like limp frizzy poodle ears. The majority of hairsprays I've tried in the past have done a mediocre job of giving me lift and hold. No more. I found my perfect hairspray, and it is Pantene Texturize. It holds like a dream, I have never used hairspray this good. If you want shiny, workable yet very strong hold this is a great choice!

Great Drugstore Mascara Buys

Ok, I have to rave about L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black. Every time I wear this, I look like I'm wearing false lashes (which I can never seem to apply properly) I usually do one or two coats, but in one of the gossip magazines awhile back I read Eva Longoria wore five coats, combed in between each coat, of this very mascara. It's fabulous!

And...an honorable mention goes to Cover Girl LashBlast. This mascara comes in a bright orange tube and does a beautiful job of coating each lash and providing both volume and length. Recommended! I have even worn this on the bottom and topped the tips of my lashes with the Voluminous mascara.

Review of Sally Hansen Hard as Wraps Polish

I tried Sally Hansen Hard as Wraps polish in a shade called Super Frost Platinum (or something similar to that) it is a very pale silver frost. I didn't use a base coat, but did use the new 30 second top coat by Sally Hansen.

It's been three days and my nails still look great! I just wish my local stores had more selection, so far I have only seen this at Kroger in ONE shade (the one I bought)

This polish cost me around $5 which is a bit costly for my taste, but I think it is worth the money. I am thinking of indulging in a new shade once per week until I own the collection. I don't know. I have had manicures at salons with OPI polish and I would say this polish is just as good but about $3 less per bottle.

Organic and Natural Makeup -- A New Trend at Drugstores

I am seeing a lot of organic and all-natural products on store shelves here lately and really liking it. My CVS carries Burt's Bees and the Physicians Formula line of Organic wear makeup. While I have tried some Burt's Bees stuff I haven't yet splurged on the Physicians Formula. Why? It's a little pricey for drugstore makeup and if I'm shelling out that kind of money for anything it might be Sally Hansen, whose new stuff looks really intriguing. But I digress...

I really liked my Burt's Bees lip balm although it was very minty and tingly. I have the Apricot Baby Oil which I sometimes use on my legs after shaving and it smells wonderful.

Has anyone tried the Physicians Formula organics line yet? If so comment and let me know if you liked it!

Revlon Beyond Natural Protective Liptint -- Love It!

Revlon Beyond Natural Protective Liptint...I am loving this stuff...I bought it in the Nude shade at Kroger, which by the way has it on sale for under $4! Worth every penny. I want to try Neutral Pink next. There are eight shades and honestly I might buy them all, one each week for eight weeks. That is how much I adore this lipstick.

It is like a balm and lipstick in one. Gorgeous and smooth. Spf 15...I had to give my testimonial.

I have always wanted to try Clinique Butter Shines lipstick. However I just can't bring myself to spend $14 on a tube of lipstick at this point in my life. I just can't. I think the Revlon Liptint will be a divine substitute, I wish they would come out with even more colors.

The Trend of Blue Lip Gloss

Blue lip gloss...I've heard it will impart the illusion of whiter teeth and doesn't look blue on your lips. Benefit makes California Kissin', a minty blue gloss. In the picture above is Cover Girl Amazemint in Happy Hour, a minty blue gloss. The difference as far as I can see is price. I haven't tried the Benefit gloss but I now own the Cover Girl blue gloss (yay!) and I really like it. I can tell there is a slight blue sheen to it but it is clear on my lips and has the most delightful minty tingle and scent. I almost think it really does make my teeth look a little whiter. For around $5 it is definitely worth every penny!

Cover Girl Amazemint Gloss -- Truly Amazing for the Price!

Even though I have too many lip glosses already, I got the urge to pick up a Cover Girl Wetslicks Amazemint gloss and I am glad I did. The price? Slightly over $4 and worth it. I got Tickled Pink, a clear medium pink with no frost that looks a lot like my natural lip color.

The gloss tingles like the expensive lip plumping glosses and the taste/smell is of strong mint, like toothpaste. According to the official Cover Girl site it is Crest Peppermint Oil. Yum.

I heard there's a clear blue one...Happy Hour...which is the one I wanted but either the store didn't carry it or it was sold out. Still, I am happy with the shade I chose and plan to buy others.

I could kiss whoever it was who said "black is the new red" when it comes to nails. I adore the look of a perfect black polish manicure, which I now have thanks to this phenomenal 99 cent polish. Yep -- for .99 cents you get great coverage with two coats, a satiny finish and days of wear. This brand is available in lots of discount department stores, drugstores and supermarkets.
